As an older mom, I am fascinated by the media’s portrayal of older women. Consider this: the women of “The Golden Girls” — Blanche, Dorothy and Rose — were in their 50s in 1985, when the show about old women began. “Is anyone watching ‘The Golden Bachelor’ and thinking, ‘maybe I shouldn’t be so scared to get older…. “I feel like as someone in her 20s it’s scary, like how am I going to look when I’m older?

How did you tell the story of Queen Charlotte’s character development through her costumes? There was a Met Ball about 10 years ago based on the work of the designer Charles James, who I’m obsessed with. Queen Charlotte’s elaborate wigs, and the depiction of her hair as a Black monarch, have been praised since the first season of “Bridgerton.” Tell me about the decision for young Charlotte to wear her natural hair. The original sketches that we did for Queen Charlotte, before any of the casting process was done, had her with big, natural, curly hair. She had said, “Do you think we can do this?” So she and Shonda spoke and decided to do it.

New York CNN —Banks have pledged to go green, but last year they poured billions of dollars into expanding the capacity of fossil fuel production despite the accelerating climate crisis. While Canadian banks are providing a rising share of the money, US lenders still dominate the market and accounted for 28% of all fossil fuel financing in 2022, said the report. High prices have swelled profits for energy companies, leaving them flush with cash. The record profits come after the world’s 60 largest private banks provided $5.5 trillion in finance for fossil fuels over the past seven years, according to the report. The Banking on Climate Chaos report, which has been published for 14 years, examines the fossil fuel funding of the 60 largest banks in the world.

London CNN —Men participating in the world’s biggest trial of a four-day work week spent much more time with their children, organizers say. That is the biggest number of companies to ever take part in such a trial, according to organizers 4 Day Week Global (4DWG), a nonprofit organization. The time male workers spent looking after their children rose by 27%, according to time diaries they kept during the trial. 4DWG ran the study with Autonomy, a think tank, the 4 Day Week UK Campaign, as well as in partnership with researchers from Cambridge University, Oxford University and Boston College. It was “a resounding success,” according to organizers, with 92% of the 61 participating organizations continuing with the four-day week beyond the end of the trial.

Though it feels like the five-day, 40-hour work week has always been with us, it’s actually a relatively new invention. As far back as 1866, Congress considered mandating a 40-hour work week, but the legislation stalled. In 1926, Henry Ford instituted a 40-hour work week for his employees, believing that was the optimal amount of time for someone to work in a week. But the 40-hour work week was – and is – routinely violated by salaried employees (and their bosses) who believe that working more is working better. “If you think about it, your contract with your employee is not just buying time,” Charlotte Lockhart, an advocate for a four-day work week, told me.
